Description:
Pediatric Surgery provides solutions for the various surgical needs in children, which include mending birth defects, emergency and elective surgery from birth to the age of 13 years.
We perform laparoscopy in a range of fields, such as undescended testicles, varicocele, cholecystectomy, gastro-esophageal reflux, Hirschsprung’s Disease, etc.
In addition we perform thoracoscopic sympathectomies to reduce excess sweating of the palms of the hands. Following these procedures these youths’ quality of life is dramatically improved.
Together with the Trauma Unit, we also provide care for the many children residing in the area, who are subject to car accidents, falls, swallowing caustic materials, light degree burns, etc.
The unit runs a consultory and follow-up clinic for children who have undergone surgery in the hospital and the region, in cooperation with all medicare clinics according to the following:
· Kupat Cholim Clalit: in Zichron-Ya’akov and Pardess-Chana
· Kupat Cholim Me’uchedet: in Netanya, Pardess-Chana, Um el-Fachem, Kefar Kara’, Baka’ el-garbiya and Afula
· Kupat Cholim Le’umit: In Netanya
The children are hospitalized according to need and age in the Neonatal Care Unit, Surgery “A” department, Pediatrics, or in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Dr. Steiner is a lecturer in the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine in the Technion in Haifa. The unit also participates in 5th and 6th year student teaching and direction within the surgical and pediatric clerkship curricula. Lectures are also given to the Hadera and Technion Nursing Schools.
Our main activities lie in ambulatory treatment, functioning via the Pediatric Day-care Unit, which has been fully equipped to admit children, including suitable furniture, games, a computer, etc.
An amicable relationship exists between Dr. Steiner and the children and their families. A meeting with him may be arranged through the secretary or nurses in the Surgery “A” department.
