Description:
The Department of Neurology is a primary care center for neurological patients with acute problems, who require immediate treatment, and for other elective neurological patients referred from all over the country.

We also provide an out-patient clinic for diagnosis and patient follow-up after release from the hospital, as well as those referred by other physicians.

The department employs specialists in the following fields:
1. Pain Clinic: Director, Prof. R.L. Carasso - diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain, headache, low back pain, intractable pain.
2. Multiple Sclerosis Clinic: Dr. P. Nisipeanu - diagnosis, treatment and preventive therapy of Multiple Sclerosis.
3. Muscle and Nerve Diseases - Nerve Clinic: Dr. S.C. Blumen - diagnosis, treatment, genetic referral of muscle and nerve diseases.
4. Cerebrovascular Diseases Clinic: Dr. M. Sarkantyus - diagnosis, treatment and prevention of stroke, follow-up after cerebral hemorrhage and ischemia.

The department also takes part in testing new drugs in Israel as well as participating in cooperative international studies. Last year we concluded studies in the field of headache, Parkinson's Disease and state of confusion. Further studies in epilepsy, migraine, Parkinson's Disease and brain ischemia are still in progress.

Other institutes affiliated with the Department of Neurology are:
1. Electroencephalography (E.E.G) & Epilepsy Clinic and Electromyography (EMG) Institute
Director: Dr. S.C. Blumen, Dr. J. Kovacs, chief technician: Mrs. Bruria Naaman.
The institute performs EEG examinations both patients from the hospital's departments, and those referred on an ambulatory basis.
EEG is a very useful test for the diagnosis of epilepsy, intoxication states, confusion, loss of consciousness and coma.
EMG is a very useful test for the diagnosis of muscle diseases, nerve diseases, nerve damage following spine trauma and limb trauma. The institute serves hospitalised and ambulatory patients.

The laboratory deals with diagnosis and research of tremor and involuntary movements. A special treatment named BOTOX for involuntary movements is also avalaible.
